What is the gecKo?
gecKo mathematics is a system adapted from the English translations of a Korean arithmetic series used for grades 1-6 in the national curriculum of Korea in 1993-1996.
The Korean curriculum was the one in use when Korean children were ranked 2nd in the world on the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). The English translations were produced with permission from the Korean Ministry of Education, and with funding from the National Science Foundation.
The developers of gecKo mathematics hope to publish the whole series online available to all. Sample lessons can be seen now at www.gecKomath.com.
Funding is being sought from foundations and corporations to finish editing and preparation for the web. Developers also seek schools and school districts willing to try and field test the series in manuscript form.
